50,000 square feet of unique geological data

Geologic Library and Data Center is the largest geological library and the only national data library in the U.S. Our 50,000-square-foot building contains some of the most difficult-to-find information on oil and gas exploration, carbon sequestration, lithium play research, geothermal projects, environmental projects, and saltwater disposal.

You can come to the library yourself to pull your data, or our librarian can pull it for you, and either make a copy or check out information.

Several generations of geologists have been coming here to find information for building their own proprietary maps they weren’t able to find anywhere else.

What kind of information can you find in our library?

Our data collection includes:

  • Oryx/Sun Energy well files and scout card collection
  • Ensearch well files and scout card collection
  • Texas-Pacific scout card files
  • Hrubetz log collection with location maps
  • Mitchell Energy - log collection
  • Dallas GILD Library that contains collection contributions from over 500 major oil companies, independent companies, individuals, and trust accounts. Information from every U.S. state plus 25 foreign countries. Largest library of its kind in the world.
  • Current donations from numerous small to mid-sized operators and data libraries
  • Prospect files: extensive collection of drilled and undrilled prospects
  • Paleo reports, insoluble residue reports, exploration basin play analysis
  • Comprehensive Collection of AAPG, university, state and local geological societies, state governmental resources, Bureau of Mines, USGS, DOE, field studies, regional studies, hearings and unitization files, type log sets, industry methods, and practices manuals

I’ve been coming to the GeoMap library for a little over 25 years now. I think it’s an intellectual treasure trove. Geologically, you need to be able to get the keys to unlock those treasure chests. And they are everywhere. It’s just a matter of spending a little bit of time here.

- Bobby Atkins, Adobe Oil & Gas Inc.

Geomap, as the largest private geological data repository in the world, has been an invaluable partner to Lapis. The ability to quickly assess subsurface data in key areas of interest, either in person or online, has also been tremendously helpful to us as we grow our business.
